MADISON, Wis. — University of Wisconsin-Madison alumni in the Rhinelander area will celebrate the founding of the university with a talk from the vice chancellor of academic affairs on Wednesday, April 30.
Pat Farrell, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at UW-Madison, will present his lecture, “A Year as Provost” at the Wisconsin Alumni Association: Northwoods Chapter Founders’ Day event.
The Founders’ Day event will start at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Acres Resort, Lake George Road in Rhinelander. News media are welcome to attend. For more details, visit

As the UW-Madison’s chief operating officer, Farrell oversees the institution’s academic and administrative management. As provost, he acts as the university’s chief executive officer in the chancellor’s absence. Farrell began his UW career in 1982 as a member of the mechanical engineering faculty. Today, he works closely with deans, faculty, staff and students in the exercise of shared governance.
Founders’ Day 2008 is presented in cities nationwide by the
Wisconsin Alumni Association, a nonprofit organization, in cooperation with the
University of Wisconsin Foundation.
These events are hosted annually by UW-Madison alumni chapters to bring the latest in
University of Wisconsin research to alumni in their hometowns, raise funds for student scholarships and celebrate the founding of the university. Proceeds from the Wisconsin Alumni Association: Northwoods Chapter Founders' Day event will benefit the chapter's local scholarship fund.
Participation and membership in the Wisconsin Alumni Association and its chapters are open to all alumni, students and friends of UW-Madison.
