MADISON, Wis. -- University of Wisconsin-Madison alumni in the Sacramento, Calif., area will celebrate the founding of the university with a talk from an expert on biotechnology on Wednesday, April 9.
Tom Zinnen, outreach specialist with the Biotechnology Center of UW-Madison, will present his lecture, "Biotechnology at UW-Madison: Changing How We Look at Life and Lead Our Lives" at the Wisconsin Alumni Association: Sacramento Chapter Founders' Day event.
The Founders' Day event will start at 6 p.m. at the Buggy Whip, 2737 Fulton Avenue in Sacramento. News media are welcome to attend. For more details, visit

Zinnen received his PhD in plant pathology from the UW-Madison in 1985. He is a co-organizer of the public science series Wednesday Nite @ The Lab. He launched the annual UW science open house Science Expeditions in 2003 and also helped secure the UW-Madison Dairy Barn's status as a National Historic Landmark.
Founders' Day 2008 is presented in cities nationwide by the
Wisconsin Alumni Association, a nonprofit organization, in cooperation with the
University of Wisconsin Foundation.
These events are hosted annually by UW-Madison alumni chapters to bring the latest in
University of Wisconsin research to alumni in their hometowns, raise funds for student scholarships and celebrate the founding of the university. Proceeds from the Wisconsin Alumni Association: Sacramento Chapter Founders' Day event will benefit the chapter's local scholarship fund.
Participation and membership in the Wisconsin Alumni Association and its chapters are open to all alumni, students and friends of UW-Madison.
