MADISON, Wis. -- University of Wisconsin-Madison alumni in the Philadelphia and Camden, N.J., areas will celebrate the founding of the university with a talk from an expert on biochemistry on Saturday, April 12.
David Nelson, professor of biochemistry and director of the Center for Biology Education, will present his lecture, "The History of Scientific Discoveries at the UW" at the Wisconsin Alumni Association: Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley Chapter Founders' Day event.
The Founders' Day event will start at 11:30 a.m. at the Union League of Philadelphia, 140 South Broad Street. News media are welcome to attend. For more details, visit

David Nelson received his undergraduate degree from St. Olaf college and his PhD from Stanford Medical School. He joined the UW faculty in 1971, and became director of the Center for Biology Education in 2002. A co-author of Lehninger Principles of Biochemistry, his research focuses on studying the behavior response of the unicellular organism Paramecium.
Founders' Day 2008 is presented in cities nationwide by the
Wisconsin Alumni Association, a nonprofit organization, in cooperation with the
University of Wisconsin Foundation.
These events are hosted annually by UW-Madison alumni chapters to bring the latest in
University of Wisconsin research to alumni in their hometowns, raise funds for student scholarships and celebrate the founding of the university. Proceeds from the Wisconsin Alumni Association: Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley Chapter Founders' Day will benefit the chapter's local scholarship fund.
Participation and membership in the Wisconsin Alumni Association and its chapters are open to all alumni, students and friends of UW-Madison.
