MADISON, Wis. - On Nov. 12 and 13, the biannual Dinners On Wisconsin! program will take traditional alumni/student networking to the next level. By bringing undergraduates into the homes of alumni and sitting them down to a home-cooked meal, alums and students alike will participate in a rare networking opportunity.
Dinners On Wisconsin! (DOW!), presented for the past three years by the Wisconsin Alumni Student Board (WASB), has provided UW-Madison undergraduates with a chance to learn more about their field of interest with a seasoned alum.
"Programs like job fairs just don't give students or alumni enough insight into the business or the people," said past DOW! participant Justin Holmes. "By sitting down and really making a connection, people can walk away from a dinner with valuable relationships."
This semester, DOW! will expand its boundaries to host 200 student participants, who will network with alumni like George and Sue Krug, owners of Ancora Coffee Roasters; and Paul Meyer, Chief Operating Officer at Alliance Health Care. In total, 19 dinners will be hosted and co-hosted by more than 30 alumni in 19 different professional fields.
"The wide scope of professional fields enables students to register for a dinner that best matches their personal interests," said Josh Cummins, director of the WASB Alumni Connections program. "This is quickly becoming a new tradition at UW-Madison."
The Dinners on Wisconsin! program has had notable success as well, recently winning the bronze Best Outreach Program awarded by the Association for Student Advancement Programs (ASAP).
The Wisconsin Alumni Student Board is the working student arm of the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA). These organizations work in tandem to provide opportunities like DOW! that connect students and alumni of UW-Madison. Learn more at uwalumni.com/wasb.
