MADISON, Wis. - Alumni and students of the University of Wisconsin-Madison will take Badger networking to the next level later this month.
Through a program called Dinners On Wisconsin! (DOW!), UW-Madison undergraduates are invited to the homes of UW alumni to discuss and explore career choices over dinner. This fall's dinners will be held Monday, Nov. 12, and Tuesday, Nov. 13, and are coordinated by the Wisconsin Alumni Student Board (WASB).
The biannual program is expanding its boundaries this fall by welcoming 200 participants to 20 dinners, hosted by alumni in 36 different professional fields, from medicine and science to business, law, and civil society.
After attending many other UW events and activities, UW junior Andrew Granias said that Dinners On Wisconsin! has undoubtedly been the most useful event in preparing him for his future.
"The small size of the dinner, coupled with the comfortable atmosphere provided by the hosts, made it extremely easy to make a real connection with the alumni," Granias said. "The result is that I have a brand new internship, a better idea about my career interests, and a clearer picture of where I want to go in life."
The program has had notable success as well, recently winning the bronze Best Outreach Program awarded by the Association for Student Advancement Programs (ASAP).
The Wisconsin Alumni Student Board is the working student arm of the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA). These organizations work in tandem to provide opportunities like DOW! that connect students and alumni of UW-Madison.
