- Recent and current building projects
- University Square (2008): This 1.1-million square-foot complex on the 700 block of University Avenue houses a two-story retail mall, a ten-story apartment tower known as "Lucky" and a nine-story tower owned by the UW for health services, student organizations and university student services.
- Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery (2010): Once construction is complete in 2010, the $150 million interdisciplinary hub will encompass the entire 1300 block of University Avenue between Randall Avenue and Orchard Street.
The Wisconsin Idea
First started by UW President Charles Van Hise in 1904, the Wisconsin Idea is the principle that the boundaries and influence of the university should extend to the boundaries of the state of Wisconsin and beyond.

- Building Wisconsin's economy: More than 9,100 jobs are directly supported by the University Research Park.
- Advancing health and medicine: More than 80 stem cell scientists are employed at UW-Madison, leading the way in the search for new therapies and cures for debilitating diseases.
- Educating young and old: More than 136,000 students of all ages are enrolled in non-credit continuing education through the UW.
- Enhancing quality of life: More than 1,500 arts events are offered at UW-Madison each year.
