MADISON, Wis. — University of Wisconsin-Madison alumni in Honolulu will celebrate the founding of the university with a talk from Virginia Hinshaw, chancellor of the University of Hawai'i at Manoa and a former dean of the UW graduate school.
Hinshaw will speak to UW alumni at the Wisconsin Alumni Association: I Mua! Mamua! Chapter Founders' Day event on Wednesday, May 21.
The Founders' Day event will start at 6 p.m. at The Pacific Club, 1451 Queen Emma Street, in Honolulu. News media are welcome to attend. For more details, visit

As chancellor of the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, Hinshaw serves as the chief executive officer responsible for providing both administrative and academic leadership to the flagship campus of the University of Hawai'i System. Prior to her appointment as chancellor, Hinshaw served as a former dean of the graduate school and vice chancellor for research at Madison. Her innovative and energetic teaching style and expertise in microbiology has earned her national recognition and acclaim.
Founders' Day 2008 is presented in cities nationwide by the
Wisconsin Alumni Association, a nonprofit organization, in cooperation with the
University of Wisconsin Foundation.
These events are hosted annually by UW-Madison alumni chapters to bring the latest in
University of Wisconsin research to alumni in their hometowns, raise funds for student scholarships and celebrate the founding of the university. Proceeds from the Wisconsin Alumni Association: I Mua! Mamua! Chapter Founders' Day event will benefit the chapter's local scholarship fund.
Participation and membership in the Wisconsin Alumni Association and its chapters are open to all alumni, students and friends of UW-Madison.
