Note to registrants: There may be a date error in the confirmation letter that describes your registration for the program. This discrepancy only occurred in some of the registrant letters, but not all of them. The correct information is listed below in case there is any confusion.

Session I: July 16-17
Registration will take place on Thursday, July 16, 2009, from 8:15-9:30 a.m.
The program will conclude by 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2009.

Session II: July 23-24
Registration will take place on Thursday, July 23, 2009, from 8:15-9:30 a.m.
The program will conclude by 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2009.

The program fee for Grandparents University® is $155 per adult and $95 per child. This fee includes instructional activities, materials, campus transportation, the Thursday night Badger picnic and entertainment, a water bottle and a T-shirt.

Registrations will be accepted by only U.S. mail or fax until each of the sessions are at capacity. You are encouraged to register early, as the program fills fast. To register, complete the registration form and mail or fax it to the Wisconsin Alumni Association. The address and fax number for WAA is located on the back side of the registration form.

When a session reaches capacity, registration will be closed. If we receive your registration form after a session has closed, you will be contacted and placed on a waiting list.

Once a session has filled to capacity, which is done on a first-come, first- served basis, all of the registrations received for that session are sorted by seniority number and placements are made into majors. The seniority system is used so that the oldest children, closer to age ineligibility, have the most flexibility in choosing majors – much like graduating seniors on campus. In addition, many people return to Grandparents University® year after year, and many of the majors stay the same, so the seniority system provides necessary variety for returning participants.

Seniority is determined by adding together the age of the grandchild, the number of prior years the grandchild has attended GPU and the number of prior years that the grandparent has attended GPU. For example:

Ben is 9 years old and has attended for 1 year. His grandma has attended for 3 years, so Ben’s seniority number is 13 (9+1+3).

Placement starts with the registrants who have the highest seniority number. Some majors will fill up before we reach your seniority number so, it is important that you let us know all of the majors in your age range that interest you.

Sometimes it takes a year or two before your seniority is high enough to get into your first choice of major. However, we believe strongly in the quality of every major offered, that even if you do not get into your first choice, you will still have a great experience at Grandparents University®.

Should you need to cancel your registration for GPU, you must do so by Thursday, June 18, 2009, in order to receive a refund, minus a $10 administrative fee. Cancellations received after June 18 will not be eligible for a refund. In the event of a family emergency, special arrangements will be considered.

The Wisconsin Alumni Association® and UW-Extension Family Living Programs work together to make this program possible. Grandparents University® is a registered trademark, with the program having originated on the campus of UW-Madison in July, 2001. We are proud that as many as ten other institutions across the country and in Canada now offer their own version of Grandparents University®.
