A Note from the Co-Chairs

Greetings Alumni!

As the Executive Co-Chairs of the 2008 Homecoming committee, we are very excited for this year's Homecoming festivities! After a competitive selection process, we have chosen 25 new members whose excitement and motivation, along with the experience of our returning members, will be sure to make this year's Homecoming the most successful one yet. We truly think that everyone will find enjoyment in this year's theme, "Bucky to the Rescue!" This superhero theme with a comic-book twist will definitely bring out the creative side in all Badgers past, present and future. Homecoming 2008 kicks off on October 17 and its traditions continue until the football game against the Fighting Illini on October 25.

In an attempt to keep Homecoming week exciting each year, we are making some innovative changes. We will be replacing the Charity Ball event this year with a new and improved event in hopes to gain a higher student turnout. We also have a greater focus on community service throughout the year than we have had in the past few years. We feel that it is really important to give back to the Madison community that supports our events during Homecoming week and it is also a great way for our committee to work together and have fun! Lastly, make sure to mark your calendars for the annual Golf Outing. We are hosting this on Friday, October 10, so get your foursomes together for this great alumni tradition. We hope that you all enjoy your summer and we hope to see you back in Madison this fall for Homecoming week.

Golf Outing

Golf Enthusiasts and Badger Alumni:

Join us for the 11th annual UW Homecoming Golf Outing. The Golf Outing is a huge charity event directed toward any and all Badger fans. All proceeds from the event go to support the Dean of Students Crisis Loan Fund, a temporary loan available to UW students in a time of financial need or crisis. The Golf Outing is always a popular event, and we encourage any and all to join us in support of this great cause.

Charity Run/Walk

It's a bird, it's a plane, no it's…Super Bucky! Join UW alumni, committee members, Bucky and others for a 5K Charity Run/Walk to benefit the Dean of Students Crisis Loan Fund on Sunday, October 19. The adventure begins for kids 10 and under at 10:30 a.m. with a one-mile fun run with Bucky! The excitement continues at 11:00 a.m. with the 5K Run/Walk. Join Bucky after the race for awards, food and refreshments!

Homecoming Retreat 2008

On Friday, February 29, the UW Homecoming Committee welcomed our new members by venturing to Hoofbeat Ridge Camp for our annual retreat. Clad in Wisconsin apparel and ready to "leap around" on this leap-year day, we left behind the city of Madison to spend the night in the small town of Mazomanie, roughly 40 minutes outside our campus home. Our goal this year was to get the new members acquainted with the rest of committee, as well as to get them excited to become a part of the tradition and history that is the UW Homecoming Committee. Packed with ice breakers, good conversation, laughs and good food, we all left Hoofbeat knowing a little more about each other and perhaps a little more about ourselves. Overall, we considered this year's retreat to be extremely successful and we are very positive about our new members. With a unified and excited committee, we have high expectations for Homecoming 2008.

Badger Kickoff!

Come and support current students, faculty, staff and community members as we start the week of events at the annual kickoff event on October 17, 2008 from 12 to 4 p.m. at Library Mall. The afternoon of fun will include free pizza and soda, interactive games, a cardboard barge race on Lake Mendota and entertainment by student organizations.

New Event: Movie Night

Come to the new Super Hero Movie Double Feature event! This event will showcase two superhero movies on the Tuesday of Homecoming Week. Time, location and super movies TBA.

The UW Homecoming Committee has created the spring 2008 issue of the Homecoming Herald, a newsletter to keep you in the "Varsity Circle." Its goal is to provide you with the latest happenings that the Homecoming Committee has in store. We are excited to reconnect you with this year's Homecoming and would love to hear from you!
