UW Homecoming is just around the corner and the student office at WAA is buzzing. Now that October is here, the committee is working at warp speed to get everything set for our kickoff on October 19. We’re working harder than ever to make sure Homecoming 2007: Where in the World is Bucky Badger? is a huge success.

On Sunday, September 30, Homecoming started off on a high note with the 10th annual Golf Outing, held at University Ridge. It was a beautiful, sunny day — perfect golfing weather, and a huge improvement over last year’s cold and rainy day in October. Look for another early golf outing next year. The golf outing committee has already started planning for next year with some great ideas and fun contests for participants.

Homecoming is proud to announce our 2007 partnership with the UW Credit Union. They are the official sponsors of the Rockapella concert. We look forward to working with the UW Credit Union this year and developing a great relationship for the future. Thank you to the UW Credit Union and all their employees for the generous donation and support of one of the greatest UW traditions.

The Homecoming football game against Indiana is just a few weeks away, and we’re looking forward to seeing you at our alumni and community events. Be sure to get your spot for the parade early this year as we start the parade an hour earlier at 5 p.m. Following the parade, join us on the Memorial Union Terrace for our pep rally and fireworks at 7 p.m. There are nine days of events to check out, so go to our Web site to find out times, locations and descriptions of all our events.

Your Mission:
A Friday full of fun for the whole family!

Mission #1:
Start out the Homecoming weekend on a mission for family fun. Begin the weekend at Kid’s Day at the Kohl Center! Join UW student-athletes, coaches and the Homecoming Committee for an afternoon filled with Wisconsin spirit. Head to the Kohl Center on Friday, October 26 from 11 to 2 p.m. You can play games with Bucky, get autographs from some Badger players, or tour their secret headquarters (a.k.a., the locker rooms). Also, find some Homecoming Committee members for some fun, Homecoming-themed games!

Mission #2:
Head over to State Street to watch the UW Homecoming Parade beginning at 5 p.m. Find out “Where in the World is Bucky Badger?” according to residence halls, Greeks, student organizations and the Madison community.

Mission #3:
Your family fun mission will conclude at 7 p.m. for the awards ceremony and fireworks at the Memorial Union! Alums are encouraged to attend the All-Alumni Reception in Tripp Commons, Memorial Union. It’s the perfect place to meet up with friends and family after the parade! Just $5 at the door gets you:

• VIP viewing of the Homecoming Pep Rally and Fireworks (weather permitting)
• Complimentary refreshments
• Special appearances by Bucky Badger, the UW Spirit Squad and UW Alumni Band
• Babcock ice cream
• Entrance in the door prize drawing

I came to UW without knowing a soul, and moved right into the infamous Ogg Hall. My RA slipped a Homecoming Attendant nomination form under my door, and little did I know that it would be that gesture that changed my world. I filled it out, interviewed, and was selected as the Freshman Attendant in 1996. We both can still recall the first moment we met, compliments of the Homecoming Committee. It was in Memorial Union's Great Hall that I first laid eyes on this spunky, charismatic guy who would later become my husband, Danny Nicholas. We had our first kiss on "Bus around the Lake" (literally in the bus!). And six years later, we married! To us, we each discovered "home" within the Homecoming Committee. Thanks for the reminder!
