Celebrate 100 years of library education in Wisconsin

Join us in Madison to celebrate 100 years of education for the library, archive, and other information professions.
The Wisconsin Library School was founded in 1906, as part of the Free Library Commission, and became the Library School of the University of Wisconsin shortly thereafter (now the School of Library & Information Studies).

- Visit the Library School historical exhibit at Memorial Library.
- Visit with alumni at the opening reception at the Pyle Center’s Alumni Lounge.
- Take part in the “Whad’ Ya Know” Radio Show at the beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright designed Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center.
- Enjoy a showing the famous library intellectual freedom film, Storm Center.
- Sit in on a session of the Center for the History of Print Culture in Modern America’s conference on Education and Print Culture, which will be going on at the Pyle Center.
- Have lunch at Pyle Center with a program featuring Dean Gary Sandefur of the College of Letters and Science, Professor Emeritus Charles Bunge’s brief reminiscence about the School’s past, and the Alumni Association’s presentation of Centennial Awards to recognize a variety of graduates.
- Participate in a variety of sessions as we discuss the history and future of the library.
- Enjoy a guided beer tasting at the Great Dane Pub and Brewery near the capitol.

Housing, Travel, and Parking
Attendees are responsible for securing their own hotel reservations. Blocks of rooms are available on campus at the Lowell Center, 610 Langdon Street and the Friedrick Center, 1950 Willow Drive. Call 866-301-1753 (toll free) for reservations before September 1 and ask for the “SLIS Centennial” rooms, which include parking and breakfast. Check visitmadison.com for hotel options.
Madison Dane County Regional Airport (MSN) serves more than 100 daily flights including non-stop flights from many major cities. The Coach/USA Van Galder Bus Company provides numerous daily round-trips between campus and Chicago’s O’Hare Airport and downtown Chicago. Pick-up and drop-off is in front of the Memorial Union, a half block from the Pyle Center and from SLIS.
