Kickoff and Barge Races

They say that “the best things in life are free”, and that’s true as Homecoming Week gets started in style on Friday, October 9 in Library Mall. Students can “come on down” Bascom Hill for free pizza and activities throughout the day. Student performance groups and a few special guests will be on hand, and the action doesn’t stop there! For the more adventurous Badgers, the annual Barge Building competition will take place at the Memorial Union Terrace during the afternoon. This event will win points for teams participating in the Homecoming Week competition, so bring a group of friends down to Lake Mendota with your cardboard canoe if you’re looking for a challenge of your own!

Make sure you are there to see performances by The Nod and Lake Delton.

"A band birthed 18 months ago in the belly of Madison, WI, The Nod is well past its infancy, though still nibbles on the easily-digested rewards of each live show- playing for people, catching adrenaline buzz, having a PBR with fans and friends, hearing new bands, forming new allies, and contributing a little more to the music scene with each performance.
The Nod’s Shoddy Heart EP was released in August of 2009. An organic and upbeat record, the disc encompasses truthful songs molded from stories of loss, gain, selfishness, selflessness, guilt, elation, regret, and optimism. The record acknowledges that what goes around comes around…to some degree, only some of the time. We’ve all been stabbed in the heart before, figuratively…hopefully. Sometimes we return the favor and stick someone else right back. Either way, we get burned, but we wouldn’t play with fire if it wasn’t a little bit of fun. Right?"

"A guitar-driven group with sounds that range from hard and intense to trippy and experimental, Lake Delton is comprised of Ryan Corcoran, Adam Manos, Andy Iordachescu (all formally of Awesome Car Funmaker) and Christian Burnson who always plays bass in Screaming Cyn Cyn and the Pons."
