The goal of WWC is to allow students studying abroad to connect with a member of the UW family while in their host city. Spring semester of 2008, the inaugural year of the program, we sought to connect students and alumnus living in Paris. In the future we hope to expand the program to incorporate more cities. The premise of the program lies in matching a student(s) with an alumnus who is willing to show them a side of the city of which they may not be aware. Activities could range from dinners to concerts, but really it is up to the student and alumnus to decide. During the registration process we ask a variety of questions to help gauge the interests of both the students and alumnus, information which we will then use to make matches based on commonalities.

Students

“Terms of Agreement” for student participation in Wisconsin World Connections, sponsored by the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA) and the Wisconsin Alumni Student Board (WASB).

To participate in WASB’s Wisconsin World Connections program, I, the participant, agree to:

1) Incur full responsibility for any situation I may find myself in as a result of participating in this program.

2) Act in a courteous and honest manner with the alumni participants. WAA/WASB reserve the right to remove anyone from the program who is acting is an unsatisfactory manner.

3) Notify WAA/WASB if I decide to terminate my involvement in this program after I have begun the process of finding and meeting with alumni.

4) Accept the risks and consequences that may result outside of the following responsibilities and protections WAA/WASB agree to provide.

5) Provide an evaluation or testimonial of my experience to WAA/WASB.

During your participation in this program, WAA/WASB agree, as the service provider, to provide the following protections for your person:

1) Your contact and personal information will not be given to any third party for any reason. It will stay solely within the Wisconsin Alumni Association databases and be used only for purposes within the WAA.

2) Your contact information (including address in your host country, e-mail, phone number and any other private information you provide) will not be given to alumni until they have agreed to meet with you. This is a measure done under the assumption that you will meet with whomever is willing to meet you.

3) Any information provided by the participant to alumni is in no way protected by WAA/WASB and any consequences resulting are not the fault of WAA/WASB in any way.

For Alumni

Have you been wondering what the new hot spots are in Madison? What about that awesome professor? Are they still around? Instead of making you come all the way back to campus, we're sending a piece of campus to you! Wisconsin World Connections is an easy and fun way for you to reconnect with the UW through undergraduate students studying abroad. Should you choose to participate, we will provide you with the information of a student with similar interests to yourself. Once you have received their contact information it is up to you to decide how you would like to meet. You could meet just once, or it could be an ongoing relationship during the student’s time in Paris. This program is designed to be fun, informal and mutually beneficial.
