MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Alumni Association has recognized Steve Pipp of Green Bay, Wis., with its 2008 Sparkplug Award for his service to University of Wisconsin-Madison alumni and friends through the WAA: Brown County Chapter.
“Like the sparkplug on your car, the WAA Sparkplug Award goes to someone who consistently provides the spark to keep their alumni chapter strong and vibrant,” said WAA President and CEO Paula Bonner.
Pipp, vice president and portfolio manager at Associated Bank in Green Bay, is the immediate past president of the WAA: Brown County Chapter. A 1981 graduate of UW-Madison and member of the Wisconsin Alumni Association, he has led the chapter’s efforts to organize its annual Founders’ Day dinner, UW Marching Band Concert, Badger Sendoff Celebrations for new students, the chapter’s student scholarship program, and many other events.
Pipp’s leadership was instrumental in 2006, when the UW Hockey team played an historic game at Lambeau Field. With Pipp’s guidance, the local chapter partnered with the Green Bay Packers and the UW Athletic Department to create events that raised scholarship funds, raised awareness about the local alumni chapter, and helped recruit new alumni to get involved.
“Steve set the stage for the continued growth of the Brown County Chapter,” said Mike Fahey, WAA’s senior director for state relations. “This award honors Steve’s vision, selflessness and longstanding commitment to the health of UW-Madison and the Wisconsin Alumni Association.”
