The Twin Cities UW Alumni Chapter together with the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA) and the Admissions Office is piloting a new program to mentor high school students from diverse backgrounds interested in applying to UW-Madison.
If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer mentor, please attend our next training session in Minneapolis on Monday evening, September 28, 2009 (exact time and location to be determined). You’ll also have a chance to meet Carlos Reyes, UW Admissions Counselor for the Twin Cities and Faustina Bohling, WAA Director of Diversity who will be in the cities for the Fall College Fair.
As a volunteer, you’ll:
• Get matched with high school seniors in the metro area in early September.
• Contact students once a month during the school year to relay a scripted message and field questions.
(This is a flexible time commitment depending on your schedule and the number of students you choose to mentor.)
• Attend a mid-year social event to meet face-to-face with your student(s).
Students of color who are admitted to UW-Madison will also be invited by WAA for a campus visit in the spring.
For more information, or to volunteer, contact Ann Drivas at
anndri@uwalumi.com or call her at 651.224.4240 (evenings/weekends).
Please include your name, address, phone number, the number of students you’d like to be matched up with, and any specific requests.
(e.g. particular high schools, cities and/or ethnic backgrounds).
