Getting Involved in Scholarships
The scholarships are funded through such events as the Founder's Day raffle and the Crew Classic, as well as by individual donations throughout the year. The Club would like to offer a special thank you to all who have donated.
If you are interested in applying for a scholarship, or have a child who might be attending UW who might benefit from one of our Club's scholarships, please email or call Club Member and Scholarship Chair Ted Martens at twmartens@cox.net or 619-222-0465. Please contact Ted, as well, if you are interested in making a tax-deductible donation to the Club's Scholarship Fund.

Give to the UW Alumni Club of San Diego Scholarship Fund. All funds collected, up to $8,000, will be matched by the UW Foundation. All proceeds will go to deserving local students attending UW-Madison.

2009 Scholarship Recipient- Constance Chucholowski
We are pleased to introduce to you Constance Chucholowski, the San Diego Alumni Club's 2009 Scholarship winner. Constance is a 2009 graduate of Torrey Pines High School.
Constance was involved in many activities while at Torrey Pines, including:
-San Diego Rowing Club Women's Varsity Team
-San Diego Youth Symphony
-President of Torrey Pines High School Chapter of Amnesty International
-Volunteer with Southern Sudanese Community Center of San Diego
-Secretary of the National Honor Society
Constance received a $2,500 scholarship from our Club, which was matched the UW Foundation to bring the total amount to $5,000.
Constance is a great addition to the University of Wisconsin, we are fortunate to have a student of her caliber decide to enroll there.
The Club recently received a thank you/update from her that we would like to share with everyone:
"Thank you very much for granting me the University of Wisconsin-Madison Alumni Association of San Diego Scholarship. I hope that I wlll be able to live up to the standards that previous San Diego Badgers have set. It was an incredible honor to receive this award from others who have attended and clearly take great pride in the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
At UW, I will be pursuing a major within the International Studies Program, under the College of Letters and Sciences Honors Program. In addition, I will be rowing on the lightweight women's team. I'm very excited to be surrounded by some of the best rowers in the world, and train at a level that seemingly has not been matched by any other lightweight women's rowing team in the nation.
After attending SOAR in July, I became absolutely enamored with UW-Madison, and can't imagine possibly having chosen any other institution to attend this fall. Upon leaving Madison that weekend, I made bigger plans than just pursuing the initial major, hoping to add a language minor, political science minor, and follow pre-law track. I would like to continue my involvement in many of the activities with which I fell in love in high school, so I will be searching for as many student organizations as time permits. Amnesty International and the American Civil Liberties Union are at the top of my list. Additionally, I have signed up for a music class, University Band, in order to continue playing the French Horn.
Thank you so very much for all the opportunities you've given me by awarding this scholarship.

In addition to Constance, there are six other San Diego high school students who headed to UW for their Freshman year in Fall 2009.
The San Diego club held an informal outing with the group at Ted Martens house in early August so the students could meet each other and find out additional information on Madison prior to heading off for their first semester.
