Founders' Day 2010- Sunday April 18th

We are pleased to announce that Professor Joe Salmons will be speaking at this year's Founders' Day event. It will be held on Sunday, April 18th at Tom Ham's Lighthouse in Point Loma.

Professor Salmons will give a talk called "Language Matters in Wisconsin", which promises to be very interesting. The talk will discuss how a large group of students and faculty across the UW are now investigating not only how Wisconsinites speak, but how speech here is changing rapidly. He will discuss their latest (sometimes surprising) findings, and implications our work has for understanding language in general.

The cost of this year's event is $25, which will include the evening's program, along with heavy hor 'd ourves. The WAA will be sending out formal invitations in the next few weeks, we look forward to seeing everyone there!

Event Programming

The Officers of the San Diego Club would like to reach out to all members of the club to hear what kind of events you are looking for. Whether it be hosting a happy hour or networking event at a local restaurant/bar, arranging a tour of a local attraction, organizing a group outing to a cultural event, or creating a team in a local sports league, we want to hear from you and help make your ideas work.

In addition, if you would like to attend a Club board of directors meeting, the next meeting will be held sometime in October. The website will announce the date, along with an email. This is a good opportunity to meet with active club members, exchange ideas, and generate friendships. The meetings are open to everyone.

The club's mission is to:

  • Cooperate with WAA in promoting the best interests of the university.
  • Encourage qualified young people to attend UW-Madison.
  • Support local students attending the UW.
  • Provide UW-Madison alumni, parents, and students in the area with a local connection to the university.
  • Foster fellowship and cooperation among alumni and friends of the UW.
  • Serve as a tool for networking in the local job market.
  • Provide leadership in the support of higher education.
  • Socialize in the famous Badger tradition!
  • Assist and support UW student and alumni organizations.
