John and Mabel Ringling definitely knew how to live well. John started out as a farm boy from Baraboo, WI and ended up owning one of the largest circuses in the world. The circus summer quarters was in Baraboo, WI and the winter quarters was in Sarasota, FL.
When John and his wife, Mabel, traveled they used their private rail car, The Wisconsin. UW-Alumni Sarasota/Manatee member Joy McMillan ('76) is viewing the Ringling's Wisconsin rail car. It is now displayed at the Ringling Museum in Sarasota.
We will have a speaker from the Ringling Museum tell us about the history and restoration of Wisconsin Rail Car at our January Chapter Meeting Thursday, Jan 14, 2010 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Plan now to attend this fun and informatiive event.
