Habitat for Humanity in Redwood City
What: Bay Area Badgers and friends are needed to volunteer at Habitat for Humanity in Redwood City.
When: Saturday, November 22nd, 2008, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Details: Peninsula Habitat for Humanity is building a community of eight townhomes on Lincoln Avenue in Redwood City. This new project includes seven three-bedroom units and one two-bedroom, wheelchair-accessible unit, all with two-car garages. Each home employs “green” building practices and will integrate solar electric panels on the roof to generate renewable electric energy.

More Details: Since the late 1990s, Peninsula Habitat has partnered with the city and its redevelopment agency to provide affordable ownership housing in Redwood City, including previous projects on Rolison Road and Hope Court. The new Lincoln Avenue project is made possible by a land grant from the city to Peninsula Habitat. Upon completion of this project in 2009, Peninsula Habitat will have built a total of 51 affordable ownership homes in Redwood City.
Future homeowners have been selected from families who reside in Redwood City, meet the HUD definition of earning a very low income, have good credit, can make mortgage payments for 30+ years, and are willing to contribute 500 hours of “sweat equity” to help build their new community.
In 18 years, Peninsula Habitat has worked with more than 40,000 volunteers and community donors on the Peninsula to empower more than 100 families to become homeowners. Peninsula Habitat recently passed its 100th home milestone with the completion of seven new homes in Brisbane. An additional four homes are near completion in South San Francisco and future projects are in the pipeline in Daly City and Menlo Park.
