Rochester Badgers Achieve Bascom Status For 2008
MADISON, Wis. — The Rochester Chapter of the Wisconsin Alumni
Association (WAA) has earned the Bascom Chapter designation. Rochester
was recognized along with the much larger cities including Boston, Los
Angeles, New York City, Washington DC, Chicago, and the Twin Cities
when sixteen chapters of WAA earned special recognition for their
outstanding commitment to the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Chapters that earn Bascom status receive the highest level of chapter
support and recognition available from WAA.
"Volunteers around the world have formed a network of more than 100
alumni chapters that connect Badgers to each other and back to the UW,
no matter where they live," said WAA President and CEO Paula Bonner.
"We're proud to honor our Bascom chapters for going above and beyond
to connect, enrich and serve alumni in their local areas."
The Rochester Area Chapter, which serves Rochester, Pine Island,
Zumbrota, Mazeppa, Byron, Kasson, Mantorville, Stewartville, and
Winona, has done a number of things throughout 2007 to earn the title.
In 2007, the chapter awarded ten $1,500 scholarships to area students
attending UW-Madison during the 2007-2008 school year. The Rochester
Badgers also organized a variety of community events including a
Ronald McDonald House dinner, Student Send-Off, Boys & Girls Club of
Rochester dinner, and volunteered with Christmas Anonymous.
Chapters that earn Bascom designation receive special support from the
WAA, including a Matching Dollar Scholarship donation, alumni surveys,
and eligibility for educational and programming grants that expand
offerings to alumni on the local level.
Participation and membership in the WAA and its chapters are open to
all alumni, students and friends of UW-Madison. For more information
