Career Workshops

UW-Madison's Adult and Student Services Center provides educational and career assistance to alumni and members of the Madison community. We offer career and educational workshops, outreach programs, and serve as the admissions office for Special and Guest students. We have four career counselors on staff, with various areas of expertise to help you with your career transition. About the Online Course

Whether you feel stuck or just bored in your career, the Adult and Student Services Center, UW-Madison Division of Continuing Studies, and the Wisconsin Alumni Association can help you navigate a career change from a computer anywhere!

This online workshop offers tools for inventorying your skills and interests, goal setting, decision-making and networking. Identifying goals each week will keep you on track in your journey to a new career. Participants are invited to interact with other career changers, as well as career counselors. Space in this course is extremely limited, so sign up today! Costs and Schedule
Fees are $149. Members of the Wisconsin Alumni Association are eligible for a reduced rate of $139. The workshop lasts seven weeks and runs from September 30 through November 17. How to Enroll
Register now using WAA's secure server. Registration deadline: September 17, 2008. Course materials will be sent via postal mail prior to the first session.

Cancellation Policy
Fees must accompany registration. If the workshop is filled when we receive your registration, we will add you to a course waiting list. We reserve the right to cancel the workshop and return your payment if registrations are below minimum enrollment. After registration deadline dates, no refunds will be made for participant cancellation of registration.

Anyone wishing for change in their working lives and in need of assistance with that change - this course is also perfect for those who require the flexible schedule an online program provides.

What is the time commitment involved with this course?
Most people spend more time researching a new car purchase than they spend researching their career options. Your success in this workshop depends on your willingness to complete assignments and participate in the activities. The course runs for seven weeks and you should plan to schedule two to three hours per week for the course - a small investment in your future!

• Individual and partner activities to identify transferable skills
• Exercises to help you better articulate and communicate your skills
• Self-assessments to help in identifying interests and work values
• Ongoing guidance and assistance from a career counselor, including an online live discussion Tuesday evenings
• Option to communicate directly with a counselor via phone or e-mail
• Interaction with peers who can support you as you reach your career goals and overcome barriers

If you're in or on the verge of career transition, this limited-enrollment workshop gives you a jump-start. Explore your skills, values, interests, and style preferences using the Strong Interest Inventory (SII), Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), and other individual/group exercises. You take the SII and MBTI beforehand and interpret the results in class. You leave with an action plan to keep your process moving. Some homework between sessions.
