WAA: Philadelphia Chapter Scholarships
Support Local Students - How to Donate
Give to the UW Alumni Philadelphia Chapter Scholarship Fund. All funds collected, up to $8,000, will be matched by the UW Foundation. All proceeds will go to deserving local students attending UW-Madison.
Where to Donate
Alumni may donate to these funds at anytime through the UW Foundation website (see below) or by sending a check made out to the UW Foundation with "Philadelphia Alumni Matching Scholarship" in the memo section to University of Wisconsin Foundation, US Bank Lockbox, PO Box 78807, Milwaukee, WI 53278-0807.

Additionally, alumni may request that their annual gift given through the UWF telefund, the student calling program, go to the Philadelphia Chapter's Alumni Matching Scholarship Fund.
Employer Matching Gifts
If the gift is matched by the alums employer, the UW Foundation will match the alums gift and its accompanying employer matching gift. This means a $100 gift can result in a $400 gift! ($100 gift + $100 Employer Match = $200. The UW Foundation then matches the $200 bringing it to $400.)

Congratulations to the 2008 Scholarship Recipients!
The Philadelphia Chapter is pleased to announce that the 2008 scholarship winners are Megan Beck (Council Rock High School) and Melyssa Goldberg (Pennsbury High School). Megan and Melyssa will each receive $1000 towards their tuition at the University of Wisconsin.

Here is an update on life at UW-Madison from Peter:
"Life here has been incredibly busy. I’m pledging to the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, which has been a decision I’m glad I’ve made. The guys in my pledge class are mostly from Wisconsin and Minnesota, so it has been great getting to know them and have a fraternity composed of Midwestern kids as opposed to a mostly east coast group of kids. We are going on a retreat this weekend to Iowa for leadership training, so that should be a good experience. I’m living in the Witte dormitory. I’ve also been very happy with that decision. My hall has had a lot of fun so far and I’ve made a lot of good friends. My roommate is actually from New Jersey so I’m not alone in the east coast representation on my floor. Academics have been challenging so far but I’ve definitely found that if you work hard enough you will see the results you want. Luckily I’ve been working hard so the results have been good so far. I’ve had a few cravings for a cheese steak since I’ve been here so I’ve certainly missed home at times, but its nothing Thanksgiving break can’t cure. "

A Letter From Our 2006 Scholarship Recipient
Dear Alumni Association,
As my first semester winds down, I'm so glad to be able to write to you to let you know how much I love this school! I can't believe how
quickly the past few months have gone by. It feels like just a couple weeks ago that I was saying goodbye to all my friends back home and moving into my new room here.
The best part of my experience at UW has definitely been the people. Everyone has been friendly, genuine and fun. I've loved going to football games with them, hanging out in the dorm and even going to class and studying with them. I remember being worried about meeting
people at such a large school and a school so far from home when I was getting ready to head off to school this summer. What I realized when I got here, is that nearly everyone has that same thought in their head. Everyone was eager to meet people and make new friends.
I've loved Sundays, especially in the warmer months, when I can spend the day walking around campus, sitting at the union or walking up to the capitol to sit and read on the Monona terrace. Although it's getting a little too cold to sit outside for too long anymore, I still like walking around and discovering new parts of campus. I'm looking forward to next semester; getting a job on campus and trying to get more involved in things around school.
I'm getting geared up now for my finals that will be coming up in the next couple weeks. It will definitely be a nice time relaxing at home
after that is all finished, but I'm sure I will start to miss being here pretty quickly! I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and thanks
