This year marks the 71st anniversary of the Chicago Scholarship Trust. Founded in 1937, this trust was established as a means to recruit top students from the Chicago area to the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
As we embark on our 72nd year, our mission remains the same, but our needs have grown due to the rising cost of tuition and the difficult economy. Today, the estimated cost of attendance for undergraduate non-residents for the current school year is $33,280. This price tag, combined with reduced access to credit and student loans, is making it increasingly difficult for qualified students to afford UW-Madison.
Each year, the Chicago Chapter of the Wisconsin Alumni Association provides partial scholarships to help Chicago-area students attend the university. This financial assistance plays a vital role in shaping the future success of these exceptional young adults.
For the 2008–09 school year, your chapter awarded six seniors with $4,000 scholarships and granted $5,000 awards to 16 underclassmen. Scholarships are renewable for a total of four years as long as the student maintains a 3.25 grade point average.
As 2008 draws to a close, we look to you, our Chicago-area alumni and friends, to make your annual tax-deductible contribution. With your support, we can pursue our long-standing goal of increasing the number and value of scholarships granted. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
