As the UW launches a new master plan for campus development, it’s fun to look back at older plans — that’s right, the new plan is hardly the first. The 1875 master plan listed only nine campus buildings (none of which had names) plus an experimental farm (everything south of University Avenue). The 1908 plan included a “court of honor” in front of Bascom Hall (then University Hall) and an obelisk at the east base of Bascom Hill. The 1927 plan included the addition of a lighthouse and the subtraction of the Armory and the law building. And a 1941 plan was the first to include an art museum and gallery — where Memorial Library stands today.
