The UW offers the chance to monitor stormy weather.
Madison may be hundreds of miles from any ocean, but the UW still provides one of the best ways to follow the course of hurricanes and other weather events. Thanks to the
Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS), UW-Madison offers some of the best weather satellite data around.
A partnership among UW-Madison, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and NASA, CIMSS collects information from many different satellites and provides it to researchers — and, online, to folks who just want a peek at the weather far away. This means you can check out pictures of
hurricanes over Florida and
snow on Wisconsin and
dust storms over New Mexico. With an eye far above the atmosphere, CIMSS offers treats for every weather junkie.
