In 1997, UW-Madison and its College of Letters and Science and the Division of Housing launched an experiment in residence hall living, hoping to bring the benefits of a small-college community to the university's huge campus. The result is Chadbourne Residential College (CRC), now in its fifth year. The first students who came to CRC as freshmen graduated last spring, so now WAA is acknowledging the uniqueness of the CRC program by creating an alumni affiliate group for those grads.
"As students, their time at CRC was an important part of their UW-Madison experience," says Becci Menghini MS'99, WAA's senior director of campus and affiliate relations. "Many of them enjoyed living and learning in CRC so much that we believe they'll want to keep in contact with other students who went through the same program."
Students who live at Chadbourne Residential College participate in activities, from orientations to workshops to get-togethers with faculty, that encourage them to create a sense of community and learning beyond the classroom. All alumni who have spent at least one semester at CRC will be eligible for membership in the college's alumni affiliate group.
