Prospective Scholars Day (PSD) is a program that seeks to excite and encourage traditionally underrepresented groups to explore the opportunities and student lifestyles present at UW-Madison through an interactive day that highlights the value of higher education.
WAA, in conjunction with the Wisconsin Alumni Student Board (WASB) and Office of Admissions, was happy to host three busloads of students from the Chicago Public School district and Appleton Area School District on March 3, 2006. Over 100 prospective students attended the day-long program, representing over 15 different high schools from Illinois and 2 from Wisconsin. On November 18, 2005, the program welcomed 85 additional students from Chicago, Milwaukee and Middleton.
The day's agenda for each program included small group activities, discussion of college expectations, presentations from Admissions, Housing and Financial Aid, a student panel, a mock lecture and much more.
Of the 18 high school seniors who attended PSD on April 1, 2005, 15 applied to UW-Madison, 14 were admitted and 9 enrolled. An additional 9 students were admitted to attend the 2006-07 school year after attending the November 2005 program.
