About the Speaker

Robin Shepard

Robin Shepard is an associate professor in the Department of Life Sciences Communication; an assistant dean for UW–Madison’s Division of Cooperative Extension; and executive director for the North Central Cooperative Extension Association, an organization comprised of 13 universities from 12 states. A passionate homebrewer and beer historian, he is perhaps most well-known for his historic brewery walks in Madison and his presentations about Wisconsin’s most iconic beverage. In 2006, he received the Wisconsin Alumni Association’s award for Outstanding Outreach and Teaching for his informative and often entertaining look at the culture of beer. He’s also a four-time honoree of writing awards from the North American Guild of Beer Writer. His newest book on the history of brewing in Madison and Dane County, Capital City Brews, will be published by the Wisconsin State Historical Society Press in late 2025. As a native of Missouri, having grown up about an hour north of Kansas City, he looks forward to returning to his home stomping ground!
