Badger Café: The Importance of Basic Research to Solving Practical Problems

Richard Burgess, the James D. Watson Professor Emeritus of Oncology, will briefly discuss his journey from being a basic scientist to founding the UW Biotechnology Center (UWBC) and becoming an entrepreneur. He will describe the role the UWBC has played in the growth of Wisconsin’s biotechnology, scientific, and business communities. Finally, he will describe how basic research is necessary for solving problems of practical importance.
