A Gift From Alumni to the Heart of Campus
Alumni Park will be a gift to UW-Madison from the Wisconsin Alumni Association as we celebrate our 150th anniversary in 2011.It's our vision for the corridor that runs between the Red Gym and Memorial Union, from Lake Mendota to Langdon Street. Alumni Park will extend the social scene of the Lake Mendota waterfront, create a promenade along the east end of the lakeshore, incorporate a greenspace, and give UW students and alumni a new, beautiful area where they can enjoy their own Wisconsin experience.

Alumni Park will connect the UW's two most popular gathering places — the lakeshore and Library Mall — and create an inviting green space along a path dotted with artwork and landscaping.

A Lakeshore promenade will run from the Memorial Union Terrace eastward past the Below Alumni Center, extending the line of the Lakeshore Path.
Around the new Alumni Park, visitors will learn the story of the Wisconsin Idea — how UW contributions, discoveries, and personalities have made an impact across the state and around the world.
An outdoor classroom will connect on-campus learning to the meaning of the Wisconsin Idea and provide visitors a space for lifelong learning.

Alumni Park will also expand public access to the lake, creating a seasonal boat dock and pavilion off the shore north of the Below Alumni Center, home of the Wisconsin Alumni Association offices on Lake Street.
Alumni Park will be paid for with private gift funds from the Wisconsin Alumni Association. The project, the capstone to UW-Madison's East Campus Master Plan, is included in UW-Madison's 2011-13 capital budget.
Creating Alumni Park also complements a separate UW-Madison capital project to rehabilitate the lakeshore near Memorial Union, bringing improvements in safety, accessibility and environmental impact.
