Riseling became UW-Madison’s police chief in 1991, where her active campus involvement has brought international, national and statewide recognition of the UW police department. In 2003, Riseling’s duties expanded to include her role as associate vice chancellor for protective services. Riseling was honored as Woman Law Enforcement Executive of the Year in 2003 by the National Association of Women Law Enforcement Officers and Motorola, and she was the first woman and the first university chief ever to serve as president of the Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association.
Founders’ Day 2008 is presented in cities nationwide by the Wisconsin Alumni Association, a nonprofit organization, in cooperation with the University of Wisconsin Foundation.
