to UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine Alumni
Welcome to the UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine’s alumni e-newsletter! Periodically, we’ll keep in touch to let you know what’s happening at your alma mater. In this issue:
WHAT’S NEW AT THE SCHOOL?
Registration is now open for the 2010 Alumni ReunionEnjoy Brats, Beer and Babcock Ice Cream at this year’s reunion Saturday, June 26. We are hosting a family friendly picnic at the school. Check out vetmed.wisc.edu/alumni/reunion for registration and more information, including weekend activities for the classes of 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005! We look forward to seeing you there. Got a tough case? Ask the faculty! At the request of the SVM alumni advisory board, we have a new feature on our alumni portal to make it easier for you to connect with our faculty and get their expert opinion. The list is organized by specialty and provides you with one-click to email. Phone numbers are also listed. (Please note that this is NOT for emergencies. Emergency contact information is listed separately on this site.) The alumni portal can be found at vetmed.wisc.edu/alumni.
While you’re on the portal, please sign up
The success of the Online Directory depends on the number of alumni who use it and the quality of the information it contains. So take a few minutes to update your own record and tell any alumni you keep in touch with to do the same!
Tailgate 2010!Save the date – our 2nd annual tailgate will be on September 18 when the Badgers take on Arizona State University. Kickoff is at 2:30. Prior to kickoff, we will have continuing veterinary medical education – this year’s topic will be dentistry-related. And, of course, we will have our tailgate celebration. Watch future newsletters for more information! We have a limited number of tickets available for purchase for the game. If you would like to reserve yours now, please contact Kristi Thorson at kvthorson@vetmed.wisc.edu or 608/265-9692.

Clinical trial: dogs with hip osteoarthritis needed for study
The orthopaedic surgery service at the school is conducting a case-controlled study for analgesia in dogs with hip osteoarthritis (OA). The goal of the study is to determine the efficacy of a new analgesic drug compared to two conventional analgesics commonly used in dogs. Dogs that qualify for the study will have both hips evaluated by the orthopaedic surgery service at the VMTH. Click here for more information. A complete list of clinical trials is available on our VMTH Web site. For general information on our active clinical trials, you may also contact the VMTH Referral Coordinator at 608-262-7676 or 800-DVM-VMTH.
